Since 1958 this San Luis Obispo landmark has been an explosion of pink — themed rooms, red chandeliers, hand-carved details and a Central Coast mountain backdrop. As a California wedding photographer, I treat the Madonna Inn as a giant, joyful set: every corner is already art-directed.

Sitting just off Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo, the Madonna Inn offers nine event spaces, from the cascading staircase and red chandeliers of the main dance floor to the Secret Garden and the 23-acre Madonna Meadows. The saturated colors and vintage details give every frame instant personality.

How we photograph a Madonna Inn wedding

We lean into the color — portraits on the grand staircase, playful moments in the pink dining room, and golden-hour couple shots out in the meadow with Cerro San Luis behind you. It is a venue that rewards a photographer who loves texture, pattern and a little bit of theatrical fun.
