How wedding days run in Las Vegas

Many Las Vegas weddings use more than one place: a chapel and a restaurant, two resorts, or a church and a reception venue. These shapes are drawn from the weddings we have photographed here, as a starting point to adapt with your planner.

A chapel ceremony, then dinner nearby

Three to four hours. A small group of family and friends, getting ready in a Strip hotel and a dinner reservation after.
  • 3:30 PMCoverage begins in the hotel suite with final touches and details.
  • 4:15 PMFirst look and portraits of the two of you around the hotel.
  • 5:00 PMTravel to the chapel, arriving ahead of your reserved time.
  • 5:30 PMCeremony.
  • 5:45 PMSigning the marriage certificate, then photos with each guest or family group.
  • 6:15 PMCouple portraits on the Strip or Fremont Street as the light fades, with neon after dark.
  • 7:30 PMDinner with your guests, a toast or two, then coverage concludes.

Ceremony at one resort, reception at another

A garden or chapel ceremony, portraits on the Strip in between, and a reception in a restaurant or private room at a second resort.
  • 2:00 PMCoverage begins in the suite. Details, hair and makeup, getting dressed.
  • 3:00 PMFirst look and portraits in the resort areas open to outside photographers.
  • 4:00 PMCeremony in the resort garden or chapel.
  • 4:30 PMFamily photos straight after the ceremony, while everyone is together.
  • 5:00 PMPortraits on the Strip on the way to the reception.
  • 6:15 PMReception details photographed before guests sit down.
  • 6:30 PMEntrance, dinner and toasts.
  • 8:30 PMCoverage concludes, with the evening continuing without us.

An early ceremony and an evening reception

A church or chapel ceremony in the early afternoon, a break, then a reception at a separate venue.
  • 12:30 PMCoverage begins. Family arrive early for photos before the ceremony.
  • 1:00 PMFamily photos and a first look before the ceremony.
  • 2:00 PMCeremony. Some churches ask photographers to work from set positions or outside, so we confirm in advance.
  • 3:00 PMGroup photo, then couple portraits nearby.
  • 3:45 PMA break while guests travel and the reception room is set.
  • 5:00 PMReception begins. Entrance, with the first dance as you walk in.
  • 6:00 PMDinner and toasts.
  • 7:30 PMOpen dancing, then coverage concludes.

What shapes a wedding day in Las Vegas

A few things about Las Vegas venues that shape the timeline, and that are worth settling early with your coordinator.

On or off the StripStrip resorts can hold the whole day in one building. Venues off the Strip, in the northwest valley, Summerlin, Henderson and Lake Las Vegas, more often host a longer day with ceremony and reception on the same grounds.
Photography areasSome resorts limit outside photographers to certain rooms or courtyards, and most ask for a certificate of insurance. Knowing the approved areas early lets us plan portraits around them.
Sunset portraitsAbout 20% of the weddings we photograph here set aside time for golden hour portraits. The Red Rock venues put the escarpment close by; on the Strip, the neon after dark does the same job.
Reception momentsAbout 25% of the weddings we photograph here include a grand entrance, and about 15% close with a sparkler moment or send-off. Check with your venue what it allows for a send-off, and when.
SeasonOctober, April and November are the busiest months for the weddings we photograph here. In summer, an evening or indoor ceremony keeps guests comfortable in the desert heat.
