A Mediterranean resort on the shore of Lake Las Vegas

The Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa sits along the shoreline of Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, a 320-acre human-made lake with the desert mountains rising around it. The resort is part of the Westin brand in the Marriott Bonvoy portfolio, and its architecture draws on the Mediterranean and Morocco, with welcoming arches, artful columns and terracotta terraces. There is a private beach on the lake, and Reflection Bay Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Design course, is part of the resort's offering.

For weddings, the Andalusian Gardens feel like a European courtyard, with rose gardens and a gazebo set up for lakeside ceremonies. The La Menzah Lawn is an open-air space with views across the valley. Receptions move indoors to the Casablanca Ballroom, the resort's largest room, or the Baraka Ballroom with its hand-painted vaulted ceiling. Between the gardens, the lawn and the ballrooms, the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception can all stay on the resort grounds.

A lakeside resort we are glad to travel for

We have photographed weddings at The Westin Lake Las Vegas, and the resort gives a lot of variety without leaving the property. The gazebo in the Andalusian Gardens is the centerpiece of most days here, and the garden paths, palm-lined walkways and terracotta terraces give portraits a Mediterranean feel with the desert hills behind. We plan a portrait set toward sunset for the lake and the mountains, and a short night set on the palm walkway as the evening ends.

The resort also works well for cultural days. We have planned days here with a tea ceremony in the afternoon and a Western ceremony in the evening, with a change of attire in between.
