Getting married in North Hollywood
North Hollywood packs theatres, banquet halls and a boutique garden hotel into a walkable pocket of the San Fernando Valley. The NoHo Arts District runs a few blocks either side of Lankershim Boulevard, and almost everything worth photographing sits inside it — a restored 1926 Spanish Colonial theatre still running three stages, a seven-acre mid-century hotel with hidden gardens, and ballrooms built for three and four hundred guests. It reads as old Hollywood without Hollywood pricing, and it is the only wedding neighbourhood in the Valley you can genuinely walk across.
The practical notes are parking, heat and the hill. Lankershim has metered street parking that fills by early evening, so most venues here run a valet or a lot and it is worth confirming which before the timeline is set. Summer afternoons in the Valley run ten to fifteen degrees hotter than the Westside, which pushes first looks later and portraits into shade. And the drive over the Cahuenga Pass to Hollywood, or four miles east to Burbank, is short but unpredictable — we build slack into both.

This is the North Hollywood venue we know best: we photographed a wedding here in May 2025 with a four-person photo and video team, a six o’clock ceremony rolling straight into a seven o’clock reception without anyone leaving the building.

A restored 1926 theatre in the middle of the arts district, and the busiest stage in the San Fernando Valley since it reopened in 2000. The Debbie Reynolds MainStage gives you an ornate proscenium for couples who want the ceremony staged as a performance, with the Monroe Forum and the 42-seat Theatre Tribe alongside it for a smaller ceremony or a rehearsal dinner.

Not strictly North Hollywood — it sits four miles east, over the Burbank line — but enough NoHo couples end up here that it belongs on the list. Three rooms of very different sizes, a rotating crystal chandelier in the main ballroom, customisable LED colour, and catering from their own kitchen with every booking.
What we know about shooting here
Three things that change how a North Hollywood day is photographed.
Almost all of it is an interior shoot
The theatre, the bank and the banquet halls are all indoor rooms with their own lighting — tungsten house lights, coloured LED wash, stage spots, and very little daylight once the doors close. We light for those rooms rather than fighting them, and we carry our own sources to every NoHo venue as a matter of course. It is the single biggest difference between shooting here and shooting a garden estate.
The good exteriors are all on Lankershim
Brick frontages, theatre marquees, the neon on the arts-district blocks and the plaza by the Metro portal — the whole exterior set for a NoHo wedding sits within a ten-minute walk of the venues, which means portraits do not need a car. We usually plan a short walk out at golden hour and are back before the reception opens.
Burbank is four miles east
Several venues couples think of as North Hollywood are actually just over the line: De Luxe sits at 237 E Olive Ave in Burbank, and Castaway is on the hill above it. That is a ten to fifteen minute drive on a good evening and considerably longer on a Friday. The other thing to check before you fall for a venue: the arts district has lost more than one landmark room in the last few years, so confirm a space is still trading before it goes in the plan.

Do you photograph weddings in North Hollywood?
Yes. Our most recent North Hollywood wedding was at Bella Blanca Events Center on Tujunga Avenue in May 2025, covered by a four-person photo and video team. We also work constantly in Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena, all within twenty minutes.
Are NoHo venues difficult to photograph?
They are demanding rather than difficult. Theatre stages, a converted bank and windowless ballrooms mean mixed colour temperature and very little ambient light, so lighting is not optional here — it is the job. Ask any photographer you are considering what they bring to a room like El Portal; the answer tells you a lot.
Is North Hollywood cheaper than the Westside?
The venues generally quote below their Hollywood and Westside equivalents for comparable space, which is much of the appeal of the arts district. Our own collections are the same wherever we shoot in LA County, and they include unlimited edited photographs and a gallery that never expires.
Can we hold the ceremony on a theatre stage?
Yes, and it photographs beautifully. A proscenium stage gives you a built-in frame, tiered seating so every guest sees the vows, and dramatic light we can shape. The trade-off is that stage lighting is contrasty, so we add our own fill and rehearse the entrance with the house technician beforehand. El Portal on Lankershim is the one to look at.
When will we get our photographs?
Galleries are delivered in four to eight weeks, with every edited photograph included and no cap on the count. Films run eight to twelve weeks. Your gallery stays live for life rather than expiring after a season.
