Giving Back Through Photography
We commit approximately 1% of studio revenue to The Life You Can Save, and we partner with TreePeople to help replant what the Los Angeles wildfires took. Every wedding we photograph pays into both.
Our commitment
Why a Wedding Studio Gives Back
Our commitment extends beyond the frame of our photographs.
At Lulan Studio we are passionate about capturing life’s most beautiful moments — and we also believe in giving back to the community that makes those moments possible. That is why we dedicate approximately 1% of our studio’s revenue to charitable giving, and why we run our own campaign for the city we work in.
A wedding is a day built on generosity. Families feed each other, friends travel across the world, people show up. Directing part of what that day costs toward global health and toward the neighbourhoods we photograph in feels like the natural extension of it. Through our giving, contributions go toward advancing global health, empowering vulnerable families, and championing children’s well-being.
Every time you choose Lulan Studio, you are not just preserving memories — you are making a difference in the lives of people who need it. You can read more about how we work on our philosophy page and meet the people behind it on our studio team page.
Global giving
The Life You Can Save
We direct the largest share of our giving through The Life You Can Save and its Invest initiative — a fund that pools donations across a portfolio of charities that independent research has shown to be among the most cost-effective in the world. Rather than spreading small cheques thinly across many appeals, the money goes where the evidence says a dollar does the most good.
It is a deliberately unglamorous way to give. There is no plaque and no photo opportunity at the other end of it. There is a child who sleeps under a treated bed net, a mother who gives birth safely, a family that does not have to choose between school fees and medicine.

Global Health
Prevention and treatment for illnesses that are inexpensive to stop and devastating to leave alone — malaria, parasitic infection, vitamin and micronutrient deficiency.
Empowering Families
Direct support and economic programs that let vulnerable families cover food, school fees and medical care without falling into debt.
Children’s Well-Being
Nutrition, safe birth and early-childhood programs — the interventions that change the shape of an entire life rather than a single year.
Local giving · Los Angeles
LA Help LA, with TreePeople
In January 2025 wildfires moved through Los Angeles and took an estimated 2.9 million trees with them. LA Help LA is our own campaign to bring back 1% of them.
We are not a nonprofit and we do not want to be one. So we partnered with TreePeople, a Los Angeles environmental nonprofit that has spent decades replanting, educating and helping neighbourhoods prepare for fire season — and the money goes there.
More than 50 couples and families have sat for an LA Help LA session so far, and the campaign is still running.

The chain
What a Booking Actually Funds
No fine print, no rounding up at checkout. Here is the whole mechanism.
- 01
You book
A wedding, an elopement, an engagement session or a portrait sitting with Lulan Studio.
- 02
We set aside about 1%
Calculated on studio revenue, not on whatever happens to be left over at the end of a year.
- 03
It splits two ways
Global, through The Life You Can Save. Local, through TreePeople and our LA Help LA campaign.
- 04
Nothing changes for you
Your rates, your coverage hours and your gallery are unaffected. The contribution comes out of our side of the ledger.

Questions
Charities and Donations — Common Questions
How much of Lulan Studio’s revenue goes to charity?
We commit approximately 1% of studio revenue to charitable giving. It is calculated on revenue rather than profit, so it does not disappear in a slow year.
Which charities does Lulan Studio support?
Two. Globally, The Life You Can Save and its Invest initiative, which funds a vetted portfolio of high-impact charities. Locally, TreePeople, through our own LA Help LA wildfire recovery campaign.
Is Lulan Studio a nonprofit?
No. We are a wedding photography and videography studio in Downtown Los Angeles, founded in 2016. We partner with registered nonprofits and send funds to them rather than collecting charitable donations ourselves.
Does giving back make my photography more expensive?
No. Our rates and packages are set the same way they would be otherwise. The contribution comes out of studio revenue, not out of your coverage.
Can I direct my contribution to a specific cause?
Yes, in one case: if you want your money going specifically to Los Angeles wildfire recovery, book through LA Help LA rather than a standard portrait session.
Can my business take part?
Local businesses, venues and wedding vendors have joined the LA Help LA campaign. Our corporate partnerships page is the place to start.

Every Wedding We Photograph Pays Into This
If that matters to you, it is a good reason to work with us. If it does not, the photographs stand on their own either way.
