Point a camera west at seven o’clock and the Pacific does the work. What separates a Malibu wedding film that you will actually rewatch is whether you can hear the vows over the wind — and on a bluff or an open beach, the wind is constant and it is loud.
We treat audio as the primary technical problem here, not an afterthought. Vows are captured on multiple independent recorders with proper wind protection rather than a single microphone on a camera, and we place them before the ceremony rather than improvising. The ocean should be atmosphere in your film, not the thing drowning out what you said to each other.

Four things we do differently because of where the day happens.
Sound is the whole problem
Multiple independent recorders with real wind protection, placed before the ceremony rather than clipped on at the last minute. A single camera microphone on a bluff is a single point of failure.
Start earlier than you think
The best light is about an hour before sunset. If the ceremony runs into that window you lose the portraits, so we usually suggest a ceremony that ends as golden hour begins.
The canyons are the easier film
Calamigos, King Gillette and Cielo Farms sit inland, where the light warms sooner and the wind is a fraction of what it is on the sand.
Permits and access, checked first
Beach and bluff ceremonies often sit on land with rules about vehicles, rigging and time. We confirm before the day rather than negotiating on it.

Before you ask
How do you keep wind noise out of the vows?
Multiple independent recorders with proper wind protection, placed before the ceremony rather than clipped on at the last moment. On an exposed bluff we will also position a backup recorder closer to the officiant, because a single microphone in that environment is a single point of failure.
What time should a Malibu ceremony start?
Usually earlier than couples expect. The best light is roughly an hour before sunset, but if the ceremony itself runs into that window you lose portrait time. We normally suggest a ceremony that ends as golden hour begins.
Do you film canyon venues as well as beachfront?
Yes. Calamigos, King Gillette Ranch and Cielo Farms sit inland in the canyons, where the light goes warm sooner and the wind is far less of a problem than on the sand. They are often the easier film.
Are the films on this page from Malibu?
No, and we would rather say so. The three above were filmed elsewhere along the Southern California coast and each card names the venue. Ask us and we will send Malibu work directly.
How long until we get our film?
Wedding films are delivered in eight to twelve weeks. If you have booked photography as well, the photographs arrive first, in four to eight weeks.
