Calamigos Ranch
A Malibu wine-country ranch with waterfalls, an oak canopy, and a working vineyard across six distinct event spaces — one of the venues we’ve photographed most often, with six weddings there since last spring alone.
A working ranch with six distinct spaces
Founded in 1937 by Grant and Helen Walter Gerson as a wellness retreat before evolving into today’s event property, Calamigos Ranch sits in Malibu’s Santa Monica Mountains along Latigo Canyon Road. Six official event spaces give couples very different settings without leaving the property: the century-old-oak Redwood Room, the waterfall-and-pond Oak Room, the intimate multi-level Birchwood Room, the expansive oak-canopy Pavilion, the mountain-view Vineyards, and the Beach Club. Twinkle lighting throughout the property gives the grounds a distinctly different character after dusk.
Because the ranch books multiple rooms across a single property, parking, load-in, and vendor logistics genuinely vary by which space is booked — something worth confirming room-by-room rather than assuming one set of directions applies everywhere on-site.

One of our most frequently rebooked venues
We’ve photographed at least six weddings at Calamigos Ranch since spring 2025 alone, spanning the Oak Room, Birchwood Room, and Redwood Room, typically with a lead and second photographer plus a dedicated videographer. Every booking has run through an outside wedding planner rather than direct venue coordination, with the ranch’s in-house team looped in for vendor insurance and parking maps. Coverage windows have run roughly 6.5 to 8.5 hours, matching a mid-afternoon ceremony into a reception close around 10 to 10:30pm.
Good to know before you book
- Parking and load-in vary by which room is booked — confirm specifics per event
- COI required naming Malibu Mountain Events Inc as additional insured ($2M/$1M)
- An outside wedding planner handles day-of logistics; the ranch doesn’t coordinate directly with vendors
- Evenings can run cold in December — plan accordingly for outdoor portraits
Where we like to shoot
- The Birchwood Room’s natural stone waterfall backdrop
- The Oak Room deck at sunset, overlooking the pond
- The Redwood Room’s century-old oaks and stone fireplace
- The Pavilion under twinkle lighting at dusk
What couples and guests notice about Calamigos Ranch
Oak groves, waterfalls, and vineyard views are repeatedly called “magical,” especially after dark under the property’s string lighting.
Six distinct spaces let couples get very different looks — waterfall, oak canopy, vineyard — without leaving the property.
It runs at the higher end of Malibu venues — typical all-in spend is reported around $60,000, with a 22% service charge on top of the package price.
