Getting married in Huntington Beach
Huntington Beach has something almost no other Orange County beach town has: an unbroken west-southwest horizon. Newport tucks behind a peninsula and Laguna sits inside coves, but the sand here runs straight for eight and a half miles with nothing in the way, which means the sun genuinely sets into the water from October through March.
The other thing that defines a wedding day here is proximity. Paséa, the Waterfront, the Hyatt Regency and the Shorebreak all sit on the inland side of Pacific Coast Highway within about a mile of each other, so the ceremony, the portraits and the reception are separated by a crosswalk rather than a drive. It makes shorter coverage go a great deal further.

The biggest indoor capacity on this stretch, with a rooftop deck that gives you a second elevation without leaving the property. Worth knowing that the beachfront lawn is exposed — afternoon onshore wind is a real factor here, and veils and floral want planning around it.

The most architectural of the four — tiled courtyards, arcades and fountains that give you an entire portrait route without touching the beach. That is genuinely useful on a windy day or a crowded summer Saturday, and it is why we tend to recommend it for weddings running across more than one day.

The one on the list built for a smaller wedding. It sits at the foot of the pier in the middle of downtown, which cuts both ways — you are steps from the best landmark in the city and also steps from its busiest pavement. We shoot the pier early or late here, never at four on a Saturday.

Seventeen acres facing west-southwest, which means the sun sets over open water every month of the year rather than behind the building. The Lighthouse Courtyard is the signature ceremony site — white tower, palms, the Mermaid Fountain and the Pacific beyond — and the private bridge over Pacific Coast Highway gets a wedding party onto the sand without meeting six lanes of traffic. If you want the ceremony itself on the beach, that needs a City of Huntington Beach permit, and it cannot happen across the summer.

The sun sets into the water in winter
Because the beach faces west-southwest, the sun drops into open ocean from roughly October to March and slides down the coast to the north-west in summer. If a sun-into-the-sea portrait matters to you, that is a season decision more than a timing one, and worth knowing before you pick a date.
Onshore wind builds through the afternoon
It is reliably calm in the morning and reliably not by three o clock. We front-load anything delicate — veil work, loose florals, fine hair — and save the wind for the frames where it actually helps, which on this beach is most of the wide ones.
The pier is public and permanently busy
No permit gets you a quiet pier. We work it fast, use the pilings and the underside for cleaner frames, and keep the hotel courtyards in reserve. Ten unhurried minutes underneath the pier usually beats thirty on top of it.

How much does a Huntington Beach wedding photographer cost?
Collections are priced by coverage hours rather than by city. Because the resorts here sit within a mile of each other, many Huntington Beach weddings need fewer hours than an equivalent multi-venue day. Current pricing is on our rates page.
Do we need a permit to photograph on the beach?
For a small portrait group on open public sand, generally not. A staged ceremony, chairs or an arch on the beach does require a City of Huntington Beach permit, and the rules change — confirm with the city, and we will work to whatever they set.
What time should the ceremony start for sunset photos?
Aim to finish the ceremony ninety minutes before sunset. That leaves room for family groups first and still puts couple portraits in the last golden half hour, which on this beach is the light everyone actually came for.
Can you photograph a tea ceremony or a mandap?
Yes. We have photographed both on this coastline and shoot Indian, Chinese and Vietnamese wedding traditions regularly, with a team briefed on the running order rather than reacting to it.
