Same-Day Edit Wedding Video in Los Angeles

2,200+ weddings captured · 35+ national awards · 350+ five-star reviews — one photo + video team

A same-day edit is a short cinematic wedding film — shot, edited, and premiered on the big screen at your reception, hours after it happened. Guests watch the morning preparations, the vows they just heard, and the first look they never saw, all before dessert. Lulan Studio produces same-day edit wedding videos across Los Angeles with a dedicated on-site editor, so the film is ready before your dance floor opens.

What Is a Same-Day Edit — and What It Is Not

A same-day edit (SDE) is a 3–5 minute film premiered at your reception. It is not a replacement for your full wedding film: your complete cinematic film and documentary edits are still delivered afterward with the entire day — the SDE is a bonus experience layered on top. Because our Los Angeles videography team works alongside our photographers as one crew, the SDE matches the color and style of everything else you receive.

How a Film Gets Made in One Day

The secret is a production schedule running in parallel with your wedding:

  • 12:00 PM — Crew call. Cinematographers begin with preparations, details, and letter readings.
  • 2:00 PM — First look and portraits. Shot for the film first, stills second — these become the emotional spine of the edit.
  • 3:30 PM — Ceremony, multi-camera. Vows and reactions are the heart of every SDE.
  • 4:30 PM — The edit begins. While cocktail hour runs, our on-site editor ingests footage, syncs audio, and assembles the story at a workstation near your reception.
  • 6:00 PM — Color and music. The film is graded and cut to the song you chose weeks earlier.
  • 7:30 PM — Render and AV test. We test the projector, screen, and sound with your DJ or band before anyone notices.
  • 8:30 PM — Premiere. Usually right after toasts and before open dancing — the emotional peak of the night.

What Your Venue Needs (AV Checklist)

Most Los Angeles venues and DJs can cover this list — confirm it a month out:

  • Projector and screen (or LED wall) bright enough for a dim ballroom, with a standard HDMI input we can reach.
  • Sound feed — powered speakers or an open channel on the DJ or band console.
  • A 6-foot table with power in a quiet corner for the edit station.
  • Dimmable lights during the premiere.
  • A vendor meal for the editor — they work straight through dinner. (Here is our short video on why vendor meals matter.)

No projector at your venue? We will coordinate a rental with your planner — it is a common, inexpensive add.

What a Same-Day Edit Costs

In the Los Angeles market, a same-day edit typically runs $1,500–$3,500 on top of standard videography coverage, because it requires an additional editor on site for the full day. At Lulan Studio, the SDE is quoted with your photo + video collection — collections start at $3,497, and we will give you an exact all-in number on your first call rather than a surprise line item later.

Five Tips for a Better Same-Day Edit

  1. Keep the ceremony before 4:00 PM. The editor needs the vows in hand by late afternoon to finish before dancing.
  2. Choose your song early. Give us your track two weeks out so the edit is built around it, not squeezed into it.
  3. Script the premiere. Have your DJ or MC announce it right after toasts — attention is highest and the room is already seated.
  4. Write private vows or letters. Spoken words recorded in the morning give the film a narration no music can match.
  5. Trust a short film. 3–5 minutes leaves the room in tears; 10 minutes loses the dance floor.

Same-Day Edit FAQ

How is a same-day edit different from a highlight film? The SDE is premiered at the reception itself; your full highlight film and documentary edits are delivered after the wedding with complete coverage — you receive both.

What time does our ceremony need to be? Ideally by 4:00 PM. Later ceremonies can still work with a premiere moved deeper into the reception — we will map it in your timeline call.

Does a same-day edit work for Indian, Persian, or Chinese weddings? Yes — multi-event days are where SDEs shine. Morning baraat or tea ceremony footage premiering at the evening reception is consistently the loudest moment of the night.

Who runs the screen and sound at the premiere? We do. Our editor tests the projector, HDMI, and audio feed with your DJ or band before the premiere and presses play personally.

Can we see the same-day edit again afterward? Of course — the premiered film is delivered digitally with your gallery, and the moments it uses are re-edited at full polish in your final film.
