It started with one camera and a stubborn idea
That a photograph should hold what a day felt like — not what the room looked like.
Lulan Wang founded the studio in Los Angeles in 2016. It is fifteen artists now, still working to the same brief: read the day, do not run it. Film and digital travel together, and every frame is graded here by someone who was in the room.

Some images make you laugh
A bride mid-laugh on a hotel sofa, her groom leaning in. Nobody asked for it, nobody posed it. Fifteen years from now this is the frame that gets pulled out of the album first.

Some images make you miss each other
Two grooms at a window, backlit, mid-sentence. We photograph the space between people as carefully as the people themselves — that space is usually where the story is.
Some images you may not want to remember
The getting-ready room, an hour before. Shoes in hand, dress on the headboard, somebody laughing too loudly because the nerves have to go somewhere. Not flattering. Completely true.
Some images make your dream come true
A groom on stage with a guitar, stage lights behind him, his bride watching from the piano. The thing you pictured in your head for a year, actually happening, actually kept.
Some images tell a story for generations
String lights, arms in the air, a whole room lifting two people off the ground. This is the frame your grandchildren will point at, and every face in it will still be a name they know.

We photograph what happens. Family formals are planned to the minute; everything else is left free, because the frames people keep are almost never the ones that were scheduled.

There is no cap on the number of delivered images. If the day gives us eight hundred keepers, you receive eight hundred keepers.

Every frame is graded here in the studio to a film-inspired look. Editing is done in-house and is never sent out.

Coverage hours and team members can change after booking. Eight hours becoming nine two weeks out is a normal conversation, not a problem.

8mm to 120mm — film and digital, side by side
Film is not a filter here. It is a second set of cameras, loaded and metered on the day, and it is why the digital work is graded the way it is.

Metered by hand, shot on film, scanned. No preset fakes the way those highlights roll off.
On a wedding day two systems travel together. Digital carries the coverage — vows, speeches, the dance floor at midnight. Film carries the frames that should feel like memory.

Wedding films shot on RED cinema cameras, with Super 8mm woven in for the frames that should feel like memory rather than footage.
A film that plays at the reception
Cut on site and screened before the night ends — the day’s own trailer, playing to the people who were in it.

Who is Lulan Studio?
A wedding photography and film studio founded by Lulan Wang in Los Angeles in 2016. Fifteen artists work under one direction, shooting digital and film side by side, and everything is edited in-house.
What is your photography style?
Cinematic, candid, emotional and editorial. We photograph the day as it happens rather than staging it, then hand-grade every frame to a film-inspired look — never a batch preset. You can see the full approach on our film and digital hybrid photography page.
Do you really shoot film as well as digital?
Yes — from 8mm through 35mm to 120mm medium format, alongside digital bodies, on the same wedding day. Leica, Hasselblad and Mamiya sit in the same bag as our Canon, Sony and Nikon workhorses. Every body and lens is listed in the full kit list, and the film-first work has its own home on our film photography page.
Who will actually photograph our wedding?
The person you meet is the person who shoots. Every artist is briefed to one look and edits in-house — nothing is outsourced, and we never describe anyone here as a subcontractor. Meet the team.
Where are you based, and do you travel?
We are based in downtown Los Angeles and photograph regularly across Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Santa Barbara and Las Vegas — and we travel anywhere the story goes.
How long until we see our photos and film?
Photographs are delivered in four to eight weeks and films in eight to twelve. Your gallery is high-resolution, downloadable, shareable — and stays online for life.
Are you insured and permitted?
Fully insured and permitted, so no venue, park or private estate turns us away on the day. We are also happy to work under an NDA for private celebrations, and nothing is published without your say-so.
