Bali Hai Wedding Photographer
The Bali Hai on Shelter Island has been a San Diego institution for more than seventy years — a classic tiki landmark right on the bay, with panoramic water and downtown skyline views. As a San Diego wedding photographer, I love the mix of retro Polynesian character and one of the best sunset backdrops in the city.
Tiki charm on San Diego Bay
With a waterfront ceremony space, the open-air Hawaiian Village pavilion and the bay-window South Pacific Room, Bali Hai puts you right on the water. Torches, tropical interiors and the famous Mr. Bali Hai tiki give the day a warm, nostalgic personality.
How we photograph a Bali Hai wedding
We plan couple portraits for golden hour over the bay, use the skyline as a backdrop as the city lights come up, and lean into the tiki torches after dark for warm, cinematic frames. A private dock even allows for boat arrivals if you want a grand entrance.
Planning tip
Sunset over the bay is the signature Bali Hai moment, so we lock the timeline to it and keep ten minutes free at dusk for the two of you by the water.
