About the venue

A 1920s cliffside mansion turned oceanfront church

The building started life as the 15,000-square-foot “Haggarty Mansion,” built in 1927–28 by architect Armand Monaco and once known as “The Merchant Prince’s Showplace,” complete with a waterfall, grotto, pool, and private pier. It was sold during the Depression, briefly operated as a private art museum, and purchased by the congregation in 1951. It’s now run as a wedding venue for nearly 75 years.

Hand-painted ceiling murals, carved balustrades, wrought-iron gates, and stained glass remain from the original mansion, and the cliffside grounds offer views stretching from Redondo Beach toward Malibu — a backdrop that needs very little help from us.

Working within the church’s own photography guidelines

We’ve worked alongside coordinators like 3 Little Birds Event Planning and B-Spoke Events on ceremonies here. The church asks that photographers shoot from static, director-assigned positions during the ceremony itself, so we plan our coverage and lens choices around that ahead of time rather than adjusting on the fly.

Good to know before you book

  • Bridal-portrait sessions on the property are reserved for couples marrying there
  • Ceremony photographers shoot from static, director-assigned positions
  • No aisle runners, and nothing may be placed on the pews
  • Outside clergy are limited to assisting roles alongside the church’s own officiant

Where we like to shoot

  • The cliffside grounds, with views stretching toward Malibu
  • The hand-painted ceiling murals inside the sanctuary
  • The carved balustrades and wrought-iron gates
  • The stained glass for directional, colored light during the ceremony
