Lotusland Wedding Photography

Ganna Walska Lotusland is a 37-acre botanical garden estate in Montecito, once home to opera singer Ganna Walska and now one of the most theatrical garden landscapes in California. Dramatic garden rooms — a towering cactus garden, a blue garden of silvery foliage, a topiary garden, and a water garden with giant lily pads — give it a look unlike any other Santa Barbara venue. As Lulan Studio wedding photographers, we love the sheer variety of texture and color packed into one property.

Why Couples Love Lotusland

Couples choose Lotusland because there is nowhere else in Santa Barbara quite like it — each garden room feels like its own world, from the otherworldly cactus garden to the tranquil water garden. It is an intimate, members-only setting, which means a genuinely private and exclusive experience rather than a typical event venue. For couples who want their wedding photos to look unlike anyone else’s, the gardens deliver.

Getting Ready Near Lotusland

Lotusland does not have on-site getting-ready facilities, so most couples get ready at a nearby Montecito or Santa Barbara hotel and arrive dressed for their vow ceremony. We are happy to recommend nearby spaces with beautiful natural light before heading over to the gardens.

Couple’s Session

Moving between Lotusland’s garden rooms gives us more variety than almost any other Santa Barbara location — the sculptural cactus garden, the silvery blue garden, the topiary garden, and the lily-covered water garden all read completely differently in photos. We love building a portrait session that moves through several of these distinct rooms in a single visit.

Wedding Ceremony

Lotusland offers vow ceremonies through its Vow Package or Garden Buyout options, available to Garden Lover Circles members at the Steward Circle level and above. Ceremonies are unamplified — no sound systems are permitted — which keeps the focus on the gardens themselves and gives the moment a quiet, intimate feel.

After the Ceremony

All guests must be off the property by sunset, so Lotusland is not a reception venue — most couples treat their time here as a vow ceremony and portrait session, then move on to celebrate at a separate location nearby. We build the day around making the most of the daylight hours in the gardens.
