About the venue

A private canyon estate with real Hollywood credits

Built in 2004 by Metro Networks founder David Saperstein, the main Villa spans roughly 17,000 square feet of Spanish Colonial architecture — soaring ceilings, arched entryways, terracotta tile, a fountain courtyard — set within a 124-acre private canyon in the Santa Susana Mountains, about thirty minutes from Los Angeles. The grounds have appeared in The Bachelor, Sex and the City: The Movie, and Book Club, and the property has hosted real concerts, including the Round Up Country Music Festival.

Beyond the Villa, the estate includes Sitting Bull, a more intimate 1920s stone cottage on an elevated ridge; the Vineyard, a twinkle-lit barn setting; and the Grand Prix, a large open lawn with mountain views for bigger events. Fourteen on-site casitas give wedding parties a place to stay through the weekend.

A venue that’s featured our work in return

We’ve photographed weddings at Hummingbird Nest Ranch going back several years, most recently an eight-hour Villa wedding that included complimentary drone coverage of the canyon setting. The venue’s own Director of Brand Experience later reached out to feature our images on their marketing, praising the photos for capturing “the feeling of the day and the grandeur of the surroundings.” One planning note worth knowing: the Villa’s ceremony orientation typically faces west toward the mountains, so an afternoon start can put full sun on the couple’s faces — we usually plan a later ceremony time or a different backdrop to work around it.

Good to know before you book

  • Valet parking and security are effectively mandatory, sized to guest count
  • COI (vendor insurance) and a signed vendor form are required in advance
  • Outside catering is possible but requires substantial liability insurance; preferred caterers are available
  • The Villa’s ceremony orientation faces west — plan timing around afternoon sun

Where we like to shoot

  • The Villa’s fountain courtyard and Spanish Colonial arches
  • Sunset portraits with the Santa Susana Mountains as backdrop
  • The historic Sitting Bull stone cottage for a more intimate look
  • The Vineyard’s twinkle-lit barn in the evening
What people say

What couples and guests notice about Hummingbird Nest Ranch

The setting

The private canyon and mountain views are called unmatched by photographers who’ve shot comparable Southern California ranch venues.

The scale

Multiple distinct spaces — villa, cottage, vineyard, open lawn — give couples real variety without leaving the property.

The trade-off

As a large-scale estate venue, mandatory valet, security, and catering requirements add up on top of the base rental.
