Wedding day essentials every bride forgets to pack
A one-minute reminder of the small items that quietly save a wedding day: scissors, napkins, lipstick and a hanger worth photographing. For brides and whoever packs the emergency bag.

The short list from the video
The video's advice is short. It is always a good thing to have a backup on a wedding day, and a few small, life-saving accessories should travel with at least one of your bridesmaids, a person who stays near you rather than a bag left in the suite.
First, a pair of scissors, for cutting the tags off any item you are going to wear. Second, some napkins, in case you shed a few tears. Third, lipstick, for a quick touch-up after food or drinks. None of these is exciting, and all get used more than couples expect.
The last item is about the dress photos. If you are planning to use a specific hanger for your wedding dress, let us know ahead of time so we can use it when we photograph the gown. If you do not have one, we sometimes carry a bridal hanger, but not to every single wedding, so tell us and we will happily bring one.
Why the kit lives with a bridesmaid
A bag gets left in the getting-ready room, and the moment you need scissors you are at the ceremony site twenty minutes away. A bridesmaid moves with you from suite to first look to portraits, and naming one keeper means nobody has to ask around.
Pick someone calm who does not mind being interrupted mid-photo. She does not need to carry much: a clutch with the scissors, a few napkins and your lipstick shade is enough, and it can be handed to a groomsman or the planner during the ceremony.
Tags, tears, lipstick and the hanger
Tags are the most common surprise. New shoes, a veil, a bow tie and rented jackets often arrive with a tag or loose thread nobody notices until we are shooting details. Tears are a good problem; a napkin in a pocket lets a bridesmaid step in between frames.
Lipstick matters most after cocktail hour and dinner, because reception photos are taken up close under warm light, and a touch-up before the first dance and the cake cutting is the difference between a photo you print and one you skip.
The dress is usually photographed early, so the hanger is one of the first decisions of the day. A plain plastic hanger from the bridal shop shows up in every dress photo; a wooden or personalized one reads very differently. If you have one you love, pack it with the dress.
What our team does about this on the day
Dress and hanger first
When we arrive at the getting-ready location we look for the dress and the hanger before anything else. If you told us about a special hanger, we use it; if you asked us to bring one, it comes out of our bag.
Tags come off before details
Before we photograph rings, shoes, invitations and the gown, we check for tags and stray threads. If we spot one, we ask whoever is holding the scissors, which is why we want them with a bridesmaid in the room, not in a car.
A pause for touch-ups
If you want a lipstick check before the first look, the ceremony or the first dance, tell us and we will pause. It takes a minute, and it is easiest when the bridesmaid carrying the kit is already standing beside you.
Couples usually ask
Do you bring a bridal hanger to every wedding?
No, not to every single wedding. We sometimes have a bridal hanger with us, and if you would like one, let us know ahead of time and we will happily bring it. If you own a hanger you want in the photos, pack it with your dress.
Who should carry the wedding day emergency kit?
At least one of your bridesmaids. The kit only helps if it is close to you, and a bridesmaid moves through getting ready, the first look, the ceremony and portraits with you, while a bag stays behind. Pick someone who will not mind.
What goes in the kit besides scissors, napkins and lipstick?
Those three are what we recommend in the video because they are needed most often. The usual additions are safety pins, a small sewing kit, blotting paper, pain relievers and a phone charger. Keep it small enough to fit a clutch; a heavy bag gets set down and forgotten.
Why do you ask about the hanger before the wedding?
Because the dress is photographed before you put it on, and there is rarely time to go looking for a better hanger once we have started. Knowing in advance means the right hanger is in the room, or in our bag, the moment we need it.
