About The Thursday Club

The Thursday Club is a 1927 Spanish-style clubhouse perched on a half-acre of ocean-view property in Point Loma, run by a women's philanthropic organization founded the same year. Blooming gardens greet guests at the entrance, the Pacific stretches out beyond the west balcony, and inside you'll find original hardwood floors, a stage and a warm, historic character that needs little dressing up.

Weddings here are refreshingly all-in-one: the garden hosts the ceremony, the ballroom hosts dinner and dancing, and the full property — including a bridal dressing room and a fireside sun room with an ocean-view balcony — is yours for the day. The club's approved-caterer model and bring-your-own-alcohol policy keep it flexible while a required coordinator keeps the day running smoothly.

Photographing The Thursday Club

The property faces the Pacific to the west, so the garden and balcony catch beautiful golden-hour and sunset light — plan couple portraits on the ocean-view balcony as the sun drops for warm, glowing backlight over the water.

For range, use the Spanish architecture and blooming garden for classic ceremony frames, the original hardwood ballroom and stained glass for timeless interiors, and the west balcony for that signature ocean-and-sky backdrop.

Engagement sessions at The Thursday Club

The Thursday Club's blend of 1920s Spanish architecture, gardens and an ocean-view bluff makes it a charming, character-rich setting for engagement or bridal portraits.

Best light  ·  Late afternoon to sunset, west-facing ocean view

Signature backdrop  ·  West balcony over the Pacific

Runner-up  ·  Blooming entrance garden and Spanish façade

Vibe  ·  Historic, intimate, coastal-classic

Because the club is booked for private events, arrange any separate photo session directly with the manager around the calendar.

What couples love

  • Breathtaking ocean views and a blooming garden that make ceremonies stunning with minimal decor
  • The historic 1927 interior — hardwood floors, stage and stained glass — that gives the ballroom timeless character
  • An attentive, responsive manager and a true all-in-one ceremony-and-reception layout at an approachable price

Good to know

  • The hard 9 PM end time reflects the residential neighborhood — build your timeline backward from there and consider an earlier ceremony to maximize reception time
  • You'll bring your own alcohol (bottles and cans, no kegs), but it must be poured by your licensed caterer or a bar service, and a coordinator is required
  • The venue seats up to 150, so it's ideal for small-to-mid-size weddings rather than very large guest lists

A typical wedding day at The Thursday Club

Cocktail hour — Drinks in the fireside sun room and on the west balcony
Reception — Dinner and dancing in the hardwood ballroom with the stage as a focal point
Golden hour — Sunset portraits on the balcony over the Pacific before the 9 PM wrap
