A real navigational lighthouse, not a themed one
Tom Ham’s Lighthouse is a working restaurant venue built around an actual USCG-recognized navigational beacon — founder Tom Ham incorporated a genuine buoy light and a fog bell he brought back after touring East Coast lighthouses for inspiration when he opened the restaurant in 1971. The venue underwent a full renovation in 2014 and marked its 55th anniversary in 2026; it remains family-run, with founder Tom Ham’s daughter Suzie now serving as CEO.
Three distinct spaces — an outdoor Ceremony Site with a skyline-facing arch designed by artist Christopher Puzio, the California Room, and the more intimate Harbor View Room — let couples run ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception on one property without a venue change. Every outdoor space looks straight across San Diego Bay to the downtown skyline.
Multiple weddings on Harbor Island
We’ve photographed several weddings at Tom Ham’s Lighthouse, working with the venue’s in-house events team through their Sprout Studio booking system. It’s an all-inclusive property — linens, tables, chairs, and parking are bundled into the package — which tends to make the wedding day itself run smoothly, and we know the light across the bay well enough to plan portraits around it rather than around a fixed ceremony time.
