About Green Gables Estate
Green Gables is a historic San Marcos estate offering three distinct ceremony settings, from a natural forest to an open-air garden to the historic house steps. Reception happens in the Heart of the Garden under a climate-controlled permanent tent. Fountains, statuary, and crystal chandeliers give it a romantic, English-garden storybook feel. The grounds are so richly landscaped that couples need very little added decor, and included services cover setup, teardown, staffing, and coordination. In-house catering and a BYOB bar option add flexibility for a lush, all-inclusive garden wedding with weather protection built in.

Photographing Green Gables Estate
We photographed a two-groom wedding here that lives on our blog, and it is a venue where the light schedule decides everything.
The grounds are heavily shaded by mature trees, which is a gift at 2:00 PM and a trap at 6:00 PM: the sun effectively 'sets' under the canopy well before the real sunset. We start the ceremony two to three hours before sunset and do the bulk of the couple portraits during the ceremony-to-cocktail window, under the twisted branches of the landmark tree and along the ivy-covered paths, rather than waiting for a golden hour that never reaches the ground.
The two suites are worth building time for. The Speakeasy — dark wood, chess board, mirrored bar — gives the grooms' or groomsmen's portraits a completely different mood from the garden, and the Parlor's floor-to-ceiling windows are the softest light on the property for getting-ready details. Once night falls, the twinkle lights over the tent and the lawn are the backdrop for dancing and the last portraits.
