What Is a Nikah?

The nikah is the Islamic marriage contract, officiated by an imam or qazi. Its central moments include the proposal and acceptance (ijab-e-qubool), the mehr (a gift from the groom to the bride), and the signing of the nikahnama, the marriage contract, witnessed by family. It is a solemn, meaningful ceremony often followed by joyful celebration.

What We Capture

We document the quiet, significant moments: the signing of the nikahnama, the exchange of vows, the blessings from elders, and the emotion on the faces of the couple and their families. We are attentive to the details that matter — the contract, the rings, the henna, the setting — while never intruding on the sanctity of the moment.

Our Respectful Approach

Every family observes the nikah differently, and some are gender-segregated or prefer minimal, discreet coverage. We always discuss your preferences beforehand and photograph accordingly, using unobtrusive positioning and, when appropriate, a female photographer. Our priority is honoring your traditions while still telling the full story of your day.

When It Happens

The nikah may take place on its own day or as part of the main wedding, and is often followed by the walima reception. We are happy to cover the full sequence of events, from nikah to celebration.
