Planning a sneak-out photo session during your reception

What a sneak-out session is

In our studio we do offer sneak-out sessions. At some point during the reception we take the two of you out, at nighttime, to a different spot around the venue for a short set of photos. Some venues have beautiful chandeliers or lighting outside, and others just do not have much lighting outside at all.

Whether a sneak-out makes sense is really up to you and up to us. Nighttime sneak-out sessions are not always very common. More often we want you to really enjoy the night with your family and friends, have as much fun as you can, and we follow you.

But if you are intending to do something with nighttime photos, outside the venue or anywhere else, let us know. We can plan it for you, and planning is the difference between a quick, easy sneak-out and a long absence from your own party.

Venues with good light and venues without

Night photographs rely on whatever light exists, so the venue matters more after dark than at any other time. A courtyard strung with bistro lights, a lobby chandelier, a lit fountain, or a city skyline gives us something to work with. A dark parking lot does not.

If your venue is one of the well-lit ones, a sneak-out can be worth a few minutes away. If it is not, the better nighttime photographs are usually on the dance floor, where the DJ has done the lighting and you never have to leave.

Why we would rather you stay at the party

By the time it is dark, you have been photographed for hours. The reception belongs to you and your guests, and every time we pull you out of it, somebody misses a dance with you. So we do not schedule a sneak-out by default; we photograph the night as it happens.

That said, some couples want one. A short, planned break for night photos at a venue with the right lighting can give you images nothing else in the day looks like. The point is to decide it with us in advance, not on the dance floor.
