A private club framed by a Jack Nicklaus golf course
Founded in 1989 by businessman David Murdock and named after Sherwood Forest, England, the club is built around an 18-hole course designed by Jack Nicklaus and completed in 1989 on roughly 1,000 acres. It later hosted the Tiger Woods-organized Chevron World Challenge, known earlier as the Target World Challenge.
The Canopy Terrace — a semicircular columned rotunda framing the foothills — is the club’s signature ceremony site. The grand ballroom, renovated in 2023, pairs a coffered ceiling with a semicircular window wall, and the bridal suite has its own wall of floor-to-ceiling windows for soft, natural getting-ready light. Mature oak landscaping and Santa Monica Mountains views run throughout the grounds.

Working with Sherwood’s regular planners
We’ve worked alongside planners like Jamison + Tania Events and Deanna Nash Events at Sherwood, across very different styles of celebrations. The ballroom runs on the dimmer side, so lighting is always part of the conversation we have with each couple’s planner ahead of the reception.

Where we like to shoot

- The grand ballroom’s coffered ceiling and window wall
- The golf course itself, framed by the Santa Monica Mountains
- The bridal suite’s floor-to-ceiling window wall for getting-ready light
