Seventh Place is on Mateo Street in the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles. The main hall is a classic bow truss warehouse built of brick and wood beams, with polished concrete floors, repurposed wood walls and high ceilings. The venue has kept the building close to its original character with minimal alterations, so the exposed brick and the curve of the old roof trusses are part of every indoor photograph. The space is rented for private events as well as film and photography.
Beside the hall is an outdoor patio with passionfruit vines and other greenery, reached through a side-garden entrance. An electric glass garage door separates the two, so a wedding can move easily between indoors and out, from a ceremony or cocktail hour in the green patio to dinner and dancing under the trusses. Candles and white flowers look warm against the red brick, and the planted passage glows once the string lights come on.
Industrial texture with a garden at its heart
We have photographed weddings at Seventh Place over several seasons, usually over about seven hours from getting ready through the first stretch of dancing. Couples here tend to want a candid, documentary look, and the building suits it well: brick, dark wood and warm candlelight inside, and a leafy patio outside for the softer frames. Some couples hold the whole day here, and some marry at a church first and bring everyone to Seventh Place for the celebration.
