About the venue

A garden with deep roots in the Mission District

Grapevine Arbor sits on South Mission Drive in the Historic Mission District of San Gabriel, and it takes its name from a famous grapevine planted in 1861. The City of San Gabriel runs the venue through its Community Services Department, and describes it simply: Spanish-style architecture and a lush garden, set aside for weddings, receptions and special occasions. It is a place that feels settled and unhurried, with white walls, tile and old brick close at hand.

Couples can use the indoor Padillo Room and Grapevine Room as well as Grapevine Park outdoors, so a day can move from a ceremony on the lawn to dinner inside or under the trees. The neighborhood adds a great deal. Mission San Gabriel Arcangel, founded in 1771, is just along Mission Drive, and the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse, a Mission Revival landmark built between 1923 and 1927, stands in the same district.

The arched wooden gate, the iron grilles and the sign for The Old Grape Vine give portraits a sense of history, and the white Spanish Colonial buildings nearby add staircases and tile for a cleaner look.
