What Makes Union Station Photograph So Well

Union Station opened in 1939 as the last of America's great rail stations, and its Mission Moderne architecture - Spanish Colonial curves finished with Art Deco lines - still reads pure Old Hollywood. Weddings center on the Historic Ticket Concourse, a soaring hall with its original American black walnut ticket windows, flanked by two garden patios.

The spaces we plan portraits around

  • The Historic Ticket Concourse - monumental scale, patterned floors, and the walnut ticket counters make ceremony and reception wide shots feel like a period film set.
  • The North and South Patios - garden courtyards on either side of the hall; the expansive South Patio swallows a big cocktail hour, while the quieter North Patio is where we tuck away couple portraits.
  • The 1939 details - arched doorways, Deco light fixtures, and original signage give detail shots and candids a sense of place no decor package can fake.

A grand interior hall means the schedule bends less around sunset - the Concourse photographs beautifully all evening under its period lighting.
