A 1927 clubhouse with a landmark theater next door
Founded in 1894 as a women’s club, The Ebell of Los Angeles has occupied its current clubhouse, designed by architect Sumner Hunt in the Italian Renaissance Revival style, since 1927. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and carries LA Cultural Historic Monument status. Its neighbor, the Wilshire Ebell Theatre, opened the same year and is known for its acoustics — it once hosted a young Judy Garland, and Amelia Earhart made her last public appearance there before her final flight in 1937.
Inside, event spaces include The Lounge with its grand staircase and arched windows, the Art Salon, the Dining Room, and a garden courtyard, alongside a dedicated bridal suite. In-house catering is required, and the venue hosts one event at a time.
A venue we keep returning to
We’ve photographed at least seven weddings at The Ebell of Los Angeles since 2023, across spring and fall/winter dates, and renew venue-specific liability insurance annually for it — this is one of the venues we return to most often. The venue asks for a pre-wedding walk-through with the photography team, and vendor access windows have varied from about 1:30 to 3:00pm depending on the room booked, so we always confirm timing venue-side ahead of the day. Vendor parking is free in the West Lot, with guest parking in the East Lot, and load-in runs through the Porte Cochere.
